Plus 1.

No matter how much I hate the fact that the year has come to an end, meaning another year has gone, that also means I'm one year older(*cough cough*), a new year resolution/ a summary of what-I-have-achieved-in-the-year seems to be inevitable.

It helps you to assess how have you lived your life and to drive you to work harder in the following year. But I'm kinda afraid to look back, I know I've not always treated myself fair and right.

So, the new year resolutions first:
It has got to do with health first and something I can do in my everyday life.
  1. More vege and fruits, less meat.
  2. More exercise, especially more swimming.
  3. More reading.
  4. Have regular sleep.(Lack of sleep makes me dull)
  5. Less FB. I think I've been doing quite well lately, I've quit all those unmeaningful dogs breading, virtual vege planting, etc.(But that doesn't mean my free time has been utilized well.)
  6. Less grumpy.
  7. Less procrastinating.
  8. Discover more places.
  9. Trying out more things.(I've got a list on my mind, just that I won't tell before I'm doing them.)
  10. More cooking? (I can't cook.)
  11. More importantly, pass ALL my ACCA papers and to graduate.(But it's tough.)

So have I achieved in the year of 2009? (Very embarrassing question to answer.) Nothing big but I'm satisfied with small ones.

  1. I've told myself to start driving and so I have.
  2. I wanted to read more and so I have. (Still not enough though)
  3. I wanted to be able to swim. Now I can swim but very unpracticed.(That's why, swim more this year.)
  4. er...(*scratch head*)I can play mahjong now, does that count? Not very skillful though.
See, no more! Bah!

And what I hope for this year? I'm not very greedy, I just wanna live my everyday life happily.
  1. No mean person/black man a.k.a. 小人/xiao ren.
  2. No biatches.
  3. No sickness.(including me and all my family and friends.)

Happy new year and have a blissful year ahead everyone!

But nothing beats this someone shared on facebook.

I rewatched and rewatched and found it even more amazing each time.

It's a different Christmas for me this year.

[I try to translate it, the content will be slightly different, I'm not that pro k!] My brother was a total Otaku before he got to learn about Christianity, his life was about online games and only online games. Now, we can see has changed to become a more caring and socially active person. And he decided to get baptized today on the Christmas.

My mother wasn't against the idea,in fact, she was so happy to see the positive changes in him!

This was my first time getting involved in a church activity,(my first time entering a church too) I myself isn't a Christian. The first thing that greeted us was the beautiful voices of the fellow chorists. I had not been watching such wonderful live performance for the longest time! They just made me broke into goosebumps.

The soprano solo was just perfect!

And the pastor explained the real meaning of Christmas.

Here comes the climax of the day(at least to me), the baptism.

The second from right, in brown and white stripes is my 2nd brother.

Pastor: "Today......, do you agree that...."

People nodded and mumbled: "I do." (Apparently not only in wedding ceremonies they ask this question.)

Pastor wetted fellow followers' heads with Holy Water and prayed for them.

Hello, you are blocking me.

Giving out certificates.

Group photograph.

Another group of followers.

This church was very beautiful, It's the Chinese Methodist Hokkien Church, this pic was taken from the 2nd floor.

Isn't it very grand?

What else did I do after that?

I went to the washroom and camwhored.

I wasn't the protagonist of the day and no one took photograph of me, so I took my own pictures. Especially when I purposely dressed up for this event!

After that, we went to Kuchai Lama for Fish Head Bihun.

This is the one, you'll have to queue any day you go.

This is the map, I myself couldn't read it.

The famous Fish Head Bihun, mine was Fish Balls Bihun, these fish balls aren't those ordinary fish balls you eat, they are more original and doesn't taste so 'processed'.

Back to the topic, I already expected how it's like to have lunch with three Christians.

It wasn't the first time already. They started to tell me how good is the religion and how great is God.

"那个谁谁谁,原本是乩童,可是接触了基督教后....."

"B小姐,原本并不快乐,但是...."

"我自己自小就没家庭温暖,家里两天一小吵三天一大吵,可是..."

"C先生原本很抗拒耶稣,可是他来了教堂之后...."
They told me stories of Mr. A and Ms. C who embraced Christianity.

I am not against Christianity and neither did I doubt their genuity, but I wasn't touched by what they told me.

I remember reading from somewhere, God's Salvation is a gift to you and only when you accept it sincerely by believing, then you start reconciling with God. (Something like that, I'm not very good in all the terms.)

But I still have doubts and feel unsure. There is a typical process other followers will undergo from not believing to embracing...

"我就是听到这首诗歌,眼泪就开始不住地流,我感受到主在我身边..."
"It was when I heard this hymn, tears started rolling down my cheeks, I could feel Him..."

"在我最沮丧低落之时,我听见一把声音...."
"When I was most depressed, I heard a voice telling me that..."

I haven't felt anything like that, maybe this was due to the fact that I'm innately cold. Whether to believe or not, this isn't something you can change merely by words of mouth. If He is real, He will touch my heart one day.

I'm not a devout Buddish but all the while it's GuanYin who stood by me (at least She is who I pray to when I have problems.). So put it this way, If God were my Father (this was what they kept telling me!), then GuanYin would have been my foster mother/nursing mother. If you are brought up by your adopted mother, will you abandon her when you find your real/biological father?

They also told me during the lunch:

"主才是你的父亲,你不认自己的父亲而去认一个印度人为父亲!"
"God is your real Father, not only you don't embrace Him and you go and treat an Indian as your Father."

Hello, I smell racial discrimination here. God is good because he is a Caucasian?

Before my exams I had a lot of stuff on my mind I wanted to blog about,I jotted them down and hoping to blog them all after exams. But now looking at the list my mind is a total blank, either I myself can't remember what I meant by the one or two words or the passion to blog about the particular something has gone, so no point blogging about it anymore. -_-

he could never love me, just as I could never love him

johanna wallin

I was emailed this very touching story.
I appreciate her willingness to share this with us and appreciate her trust.
I still can't wrap my mind around it:

I thought I wanted to share a story of my own, if nothing, just to get it off my chest. I never told anyone, but maybe I can simply tell everyone.

I have never been the type for love. I’ve never had any serious relationship, which is quite okay I think, I’m 18 by now, so that might be my excuse. I never fell in love, because I could never actually care about somebody that much. Nobody could ever touch me this deeply to evoke feelings even close to love. I would shrug any sympathy displayed for me off and go on in this arrogant and narcissistic way, just like I always do, at all times. I am not this kind of person. I am not as full of myself as I seem to be, but this is the only way I can avoid hurting people’s feelings. I don’t want to hurt anyone really, but the only way to prevent this seems to be hurting them. Hah.

Eventually, shortly after my 17th birthday, my father would call me to him and tell me a story I just couldn’t believe was true. Even though he only has a very small sense of humour, I thought he was kidding me. I never could have imagined I was supposed to marry somebody my father chooses for me. I had never heard of this family tradition. As I look at it now, it makes sense; I always knew we were a very old and very large family, even a founding family in the city we lived in. I knew my father cared much about the family, but since we are living abroad, I never really experienced his traditional feelings. And, evidently, my grandfather and my grandmother live in different houses, although they are still legally married, because they can’t be with each other. My own parents are separated, but married, and I’ve heard my great-grandparents lived in the same way. It hit me then; those were all arranged marriages. Just, nobody had ever told me.

I don’t want to blame him. I feel my father didn’t want to do this against my will, he asked me if I could imagine doing it. Was it a possible option for me? I couldn’t really answer, I know absolutely nothing of love, not even of family love, I never experienced it in our cold and harsh family relationships, let alone being in love with someone and wanting to marry him. But one thing I knew; I always felt responsible for my father’s misery, for the hard job he had to do to send me to good schools, the difficult time he had with my mother, who can’t stand me, for him getting old far too early, his financial ruin and his emotional troubles. As a child already, I cried in my bed when my dad had to leave for work Sunday at 10pm and only came back Saturday afternoon.

I saw all of this and then I knew I was supposed to agree. I never could have said no. This was the one thing, besides good marks at school or playing the lead violin at grand concerts, I could do for him. I hated all those things, and I also hated the thought of being forced into this and probably ending up like my parents, but what could I do? This is how things were supposed to be. And I agreed.

In December, when we went home, to Russia this is, like we do usually on holidays, I was introduced to my fiancé; a man of 26 years, who finished the University of St. Petersburg with a Summa Cum Laude and as valedictorian, who did his Master in Yale and quite recently his PhD at Oxford University and who now worked as the CEO’s right hand in Russia’s biggest gas company. He was very tall, much taller than I, wore a dark suit and had a very dismissive and apathetic expression on his face. It was a very formal occasion, namely our engagement party, and both families were present, even at a larger scale. I had to wear a satin dress and was told to behave well. Slowly I understood how they had chosen an extremely prestigious and, sadly, I realised, extraordinary wealthy family. It was a horrible farce. As we greeted, my fiancé and I, we shook hands, and his hand was cold. During the whole evening, I didn’t talk to him once. His younger sister Natalia, who is 22, and his brother Gavriel, 23, addressed me immediately and I couldn’t help but wonder on how different a character they were; both his younger siblings were talkative and warm, especially Natalia, who is one of the loveliest and kindest people I ever met. Gavriel entertained me the whole evening and half of the night, making me laugh all the time. Only from the corner of my eyes I dared to cast a glance at my fiancé, who seemed unmoved by all of this, and mostly talked to our fathers and grandfathers at the other end of the table. The next day I officially received an old ring, a family heirloom, which was brought to me by his father.

After this, I didn’t see him for almost a year. We went for a dinner once in April, when I was in Russia for holidays. It was the weirdest thing I ever experienced. It was only us two, and I couldn’t help but feel insanely stupid. From all my friends I am considered the silliest and most childish. I play videogames and watch children’s cartoons and skip lessons at school and get drunk with my friends on weekends. I often get tickets for speeding and I sleep until 2pm in the afternoon. Sitting in front of me was a man, who, at 26 years old, had already lived a whole life. He had spent most of his childhood in boarding schools, lost his mother at the age of four, lived years of his life abroad, completed a superior education, built an immense career on his own, and went to war. He never told me any of this, I learnt most of it in the very recent past from his siblings. He was intimidating. I felt like a child around him. It felt like he was my older brother, especially with our waitress flirting with him the whole evening. I couldn’t help but notice how handsome he was, it was almost too much to take, with his tall and lean figure, the pale skin and lantern jaw, the piercing blue eyes, the jet black hair – it only made it even worse.

Sometimes he called on Sunday afternoons, and we would talk some minutes, about school and work, and then hang up soon enough not to let the awkward silence take over. Sure enough, I developed an aversion to his phone calls, and I knew for sure it was an annoying thing for him he only did because he felt it was his duty. At times, I feel a stitch when my friends talk about boyfriend issues. I imagine them cuddling in bed on a rainy afternoon in November and I know I will never experience this kind of thing. When in summer he asked me if I wanted to go on a short trip with him, for three days or so, I knew our fathers came up with this. I knew he didn’t want to, but we both had to. The mere thought of being in the presence of this cold man made me cringe and I was sure he felt the same way. Also, I was sure this was the time we were supposed to get closer. I thought, we were going to sleep together. I was terrified when I was sitting next to him in his car, noticing I was sweating in my dress and on the beige leather seats although the air conditioning was on. He was a man, and I was nothing but a silly girl, and I was a virgin, too.

It happened I got an upset stomach, I don’t know how it happened, but the same night I found myself sick over the toilet after I had slept for less than an hour alone in the huge marital bed, as he had lain down on the couch. And eventually, as I continued throwing up for minutes, he showed up and held back my hair the whole time I was vomiting. I asked him to leave, I was horribly embarrassed, but he wouldn’t. He’d just kneel beside me and hold back this awfully long dark messy hair of mine, silent. When I was done, he’d helped me up, brought me back to bed and order tea, additional blankets and a hot-water bottle while I was trembling in bed. For the next few days, I was delirious with fever, but the whole time he didn’t leave the suite. Whenever I woke up, he was there. And one thing he said I will never forget is, “I will look after you.”

This is when I thought, we can make this work. Maybe, in the end, we will work it out. Although we have nothing in common, although we don’t know anything about each other, we can manage this. This was, until I found out he had a girlfriend for a year and a half and he broke up with her in order to obey the family traditions and be with me. When I decided I could live like this, the day my father asked me, I only considered myself. I thought I had enough to be fine with this, but I forgot to mind I wouldn’t marry a thing, but a human being. I never thought of his feelings. I have destroyed these people’s lives without even noticing it.

I always knew he could never love me, just as I could never love him, but now I know he hates me.

I have done my A-levels and am about to start University in Vienna in fall. This September I am going to marry Aleksandr.

Still, I have never been in love. My close friends asked me, ‘What if you find someone and fall in love?’ I don’t know the answer. I think I wouldn’t even notice it. I know Aleksandr suppressed his own feelings when it came to it, and so will I, in case it happens. I also don’t know exactly what I want to say with all this ... it took me a while to write this down, and I think, maybe it could help someone on something one day? Maybe people will shake their heads on the absurdity of this? Maybe it lets us see how precious real feelings are. You can’t fake them, even if you want to. There are no lovely photos of us. In fact, I don’t own a single picture of him. There is no happy ending, too.

Article - I Don't Want to Get Married

By Sandra A. Mushi

The myth that women can be single, senior and satisfied is the greatest lie by chauvinists.

By Catherine Isaboke

(not me - I'm Sandra A. Mushi - just to set the record straight!!)

Young women beware, you will soon get into the trap many girls have found themselves in - single, senior and disillusioned. Do not go far, look at yourself in the mirror. There is no way that beauty, that grace, could have been created to be admired only on the mirror.

Life is better when shared, try it! The myth that you can be single, senior and satisfied has been spreading faster than even the gospel itself. Incidentally, those who spread it have never been married and may never marry. There is no denying that there are lots of unhappy marriages. There are also very many happy marriages. There are a lot of women who would do anything to remain married.

In marriage, they have found meaning, satisfaction, happiness and a purpose for life. I wonder where the myth came from. It could be we are victims of our own success. We got education and we are now in the Cabinet. What next? We have forgotten that material things, jobs, status never satisfy. It is other people who satisfy.

As we go up the academic or career ladder, we burn too many bridges because of the myth that men are brutes, will mistreat you, will leave you for a younger woman and cannot be trusted. We rarely blame ourselves.

I know many women who are reckless and their husbands regret marrying them. Many women will agree with me that we are actually better cheaters than men, except that men are foolish enough to be caught!

This myth that life is better without a man has found a very fertile ground among young girls after they read novels, follow soppy soaps and movies where actors are paid to say anything. These and other lobbies have made young women see marriage as a plague to avoid, leading to disillusionment and emotional misery.

As teenagers we are attractive. Every man, from the youngest to the oldest, is after us. This attraction goes on till we get into campus. Unfortunately, by the end of third year, the cheerleading crowd made of speculators, all after sex, has diminished significantly. We think at this age that we are ideal.

Suddenly in our mid-20s, we realise that all the men who hovered around us like flies were opportunists and are gone. We become very hostile to men. We spend hours talking about our ex, never exes! We love embarrassing men and talking about it.

Once bitten twice shy. After getting booted a number of times, we now start analysing any man who tries to approach us. But since men behave almost the same way in wooing us or seducing us, we find it hard to differentiate a serious man from a joker.

Time passes as we do our naive analysis. Unfortunately, as we become more experienced in analysis, fewer men come by, meaning the few we get, the more we scrutinise them and the more faults we find in them.

Those of us who do not marry in our 20s will go past 30 into the age of reality. We will realise that men are not that bad. They can be tamed and a bird at hand is worth many in the bush.

The reality is that at this age, there are younger and more attractive competitors. We find security in numbers, "I am not the only single woman." We also find refuge in new churches that do not demand too much from us except tithe. Many single women above 30 have a curious attraction to the church.

The reality has another side. By 30s we have travelled to wherever our hearts desired. We have a house and other earthly dreams. We realise that our life is still empty, meaningless. We realise it is the small things that matter, a hug in the moonlight, cuddling a baby, and nothing can replace trust in man for life.

The hardest reality is seeing our younger sisters, former classmates and friends, all married. We realise that our new friends are those who "missed the boat". We have nothing in common with these friends except moaning and pretending that men are not oxygen. But deep inside, we would wish we are no longer called by our father's name. We realise the numbers of visitors have reduced, we prefer being at work or church than home.

At this age, when 40s is knocking, we would go for any man. But even that "any" man is not there. Men at that age are married or "going down" to younger girls. At this age we realise that the men we claimed were not serious were actually very serious. They have grown rich, got beautiful wives who never age because they are taken care of by kind men.

We hope a miracle will happen, before the window of opportunity is permanently closed, and the biological clock stops. At this age all the excuses are gone.

Young women, think for yourself. Do not believe that grapes are sour. There are very many good men out there, waiting to be loved and love in return. Do not live a lonely life like a buffalo and pretend that is an achievement.

Past Life

Your past life diagnosis:

I don't know how you feel about it, but you were male in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern Borneo around the year 575. Your profession was that of a librarian, priest or keeper of tribal relics.

Your brief psychological profile in your past life:
Seeker of truth and wisdom. You could have seen your future lives. Others perceived you as an idealist illuminating path to future.

The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation:
Your lesson is to develop a kind attitude towards people, and to acquire the gift of understanding and compassion.

Do you remember now?

Hahaha, of course I don't.

Me-me

I have a lot to blog about but I'm too tired. All the things I wanna write about I've typed out the titles with no content and saved as drafts.I'll come back to them when I'm less exhausted.

And now I wanna do a me-me. Actually I wanna do another one on 'write 25 things about you' and make it my 'About Me'. On second thought, that means I'll still have to write a lot so maybe next time.

I picked this one instead. My brain is so worn out I can't come out with things but answering question is not so bad.

1. Name one person who made you laugh last night.
No one.

2. What were you doing at 0800?
Just went to sleep. I had very bad stomachache in the middle of the night and my tummy can't wait, then I was wide awake edi.

3. What were you doing 30 minutes ago?
Harvesting FB crops or breeding my FB dogs.

4. What happened to you in 2006?
Worked as a promoter for Ogawa for 3-month-long but I guess I've told more lies than my whole life combined.(This is an exaggeration but you get my point)And later resumed studies.

5. What was the last thing you said out loud?
Um, "HAI YAH!" can't really remember.

6. How many beverages did you have today?
Honey lemon and some water.

7. What color is your hairbrush?
Black and a bit amber-ish.

8. What was the last thing you paid for?
Paid for toll on the way back from student's house.

9. Where were you last night?
At home.

10. What color is your front door?
Um, I think it's a light colour but not sure which and don't bother to check.

13. What’s the best ice-cream flavor?
People can come out with things like Haagen Daas Rum and Raisin or Baskin Robbins Mocha Almond Fudge but I seldom pay for expensive ice-cream, so maybe chocolate and berries.

This is the latest one I had. One or two weeks back, from some random ice-cream shop. Maybe not random coz it's almost RM9 for a small cup, can't remember the shop name. The ice-cream is very smooth and yummy.

Hope I didn't bore you!

venetia

This is the English name I'll use now. (I'm not sure when I'llfeel itchy and change again.)

I've looked up the meaning in Thinkbabynames. And this is what it says:

The girl's name Venetia \v(e)-ne-
tia\ is pronounced ve-NEE-shah. It is of Latin origin. Place name: Venice, the "city of canals" in Italy. The other great Italian tourist mecca, Florence, is more popular. Used since the 17th century.

Venetia is an uncommon first name for women and an equally uncommon last name for both men and women. (1990 U.S. Census)

I come across this name from the book Shopaholic and Baby. Venetia Carter is a villain in the story, being a smart, young and gorgeous obstetrician but hitting on the patient's husband. Such an unlovely and bitchy character, and so being called "Cruella de Venetia" by Becky (the main character), inspired by Cruella de Vil in the Disney Animation 101 Dalmations.

Cruella De Vil

I'm sure everyone knows this character when you see the picture.Woah, such an evil name, you such you wanna use meh? But I like it being unique lo.

And it's actually a place name of a historical region of northeast Italy. That sounds very poetic and artistic to me. And V is special.

Somehow V is also the initial of many wicked words, for examples:

     1. vendetta   /venˈdetə/ DJ  /vɛn'dɛtə/ KK

    noun
  • a long and violent dispute between two families, in which people are murdered in return for previous murders

  • a long argument or disagreement in which one person or group does or says things to harm another (against sb)

     2. venom   /ˈvenəm/ DJ /'vɛnəm/ KK

    noun
  • the poisonous liquid that some snakes, spiders, etc. produce when they bite or sting you

  • strong bitter feeling; hatred and a desire to hurt sb

    3. vengeance   /ˈvendʒəns/ DJ  /'vɛndʒəns/ KK
the act of punishing or harming sb in return for what they have done to you, your family or friends (on/upon sb)

*Shudders*

But but but....

V also for Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.

Hehe.

What do you think?

Brittle

I'm constantly in a brittle state of mind.

This minute I'm happy but next minute I turn gloomy.

This minute I mentally talk myself into believing everything will be alright but next minute I'm not so sure.

These days, it just fluctuates like stock prices. Tiny little things make my mood rocket and plummet like roller coaster. I'm going crazy anytime soon.

Babies

My newest baby(30092009), Canon Ixus 95. Green was the only colour left, nvm, green is healthy.

With my budget all I could manage was a mid-range camera.

I try to make myself to take a photo every one or two days. There is this saying among the photography enthusiasts, 'a photo a day keeps the fungus away'. Of course I wouldn't want my baby to collect dust or to grow fungus in the cupboard.

Dell 1420, another baby of mine, the 2/3-yr-old lappy.(Time flies)
I used to play a lot of DOTA and red-alert(♥) with it.

It was me with the newly bought lappy, my hair was still short back then.

I'm using a SE K660i currently but I'm still missing my sudah-hilang SE W810i. It's very pretty....

My friends were very amazed with the battery life. There was once, I took photo for friend on her birthday celebration from day to night(300+ pics) and the battery didn't die on me.

After I lost it I did consider to get the same model again. People who own it normally keep it as the second phone even when they upgrade their phone later. It's very solid and nothing went wrong during the 6 months I had it. And I downloaded very nice themes for the phone one....now I can't find so nice theme for my current phone, prolly because K660i is not as common as W810i. Also, W810i took very nice macro shot, which is a function K660i doesn't have.
